Energy Secretary Rick Perry says President Trump is "a very forgiving man" who held no grudges after their heated exchanges in the 2016 Republican presidential primary.
“I’ve said some harsh things about the president,” Perry said Friday on Fox News. “He’s a very forgiving man.”
“I’m a big believer that our vision is the right vision for America,” the former Texas governor added when asked about Republican unity.
Perry fiercely derided Trump’s campaign in July 2015, calling it “a cancer on conservatism” conducted by “a barking carnival act.”
Trump struck back that July, arguing Perry “should be forced to take an IQ test” before competing in any GOP primary debates.
Perry ultimately endorsed Trump last May, noting the billionaire was not his ideal choice but had fairly won the support of voters.
“He is not a perfect man,” he said. “But what I do believe is that he loves this country and he will surround himself with capable, experienced people and he will listen to them.”
“He wasn’t my first choice, wasn’t my second choice, but he is the people’s choice. I believe in the process, and the process has said Donald TrumpDonald TrumpBannon reasserts influence in 100 days push Trump: I was 'psyched to terminate' NAFTA Trump: 'Major, major' conflict with North Korea possible MORE will be our nominee and I’m going to support him and help him and do what I can.”
