GOP senator: Questions ‘ought to be raised’ over Comey firing

Senators are giving mixed reactions to President Trump firing FBI Director James Comey. One Republican senator said the president's move raises questions.

"It's still only been about 48 hours. We're still looking into it," Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) told reporters on Thursday.

"When the president fires the head of the FBI when there's an active investigation going on, questions ought to be raised and that's what we're doing."

Republicans Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Ted Cruz (Texas) also weighed in, expressing approval of Trump's decision.

“The job of the FBI director is not to be a political player," Cruz said. "What I hope now is that whoever that next director is, is someone who can fulfill that mandate."
