The National Association of Spine Specialists’ (NASS) department of government relations is currently seeking a Political and Legislative Affairs Manager in our Washington, DC office. The position is responsible for managing key aspects of the association’s Political Action Committee (SpinePAC) and will work with the Director of Government Relations to develop and implement strategy for NASS’ advocacy and public policy efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

•    Develop and Manage SpinePAC donor solicitation program and materials for targeted outreach.
•    Ensure compliance with all federal registrations and reports.
•    Routinely attend and coordinate fundraisers for Members of Congress and Congressional candidates on behalf of SpinePAC.
•    Manage activities involving legislative and regulatory affairs. Assist in development of NASS responses/positions.
•    Track and analyze proposed legislation/regulations and draft briefs on impact to NASS membership and their patients.
•    Assist in development of NASS strategies related to legislative, regulatory and political matters.
•    Provide staff support to NASS Advocacy Council and Board of Directors, including attending meetings and preparing and disseminating agendas and reports.
•    Coordinate state advocacy efforts with federal strategies when needed.
•    Establish and maintain contacts with relevant medical organizations and other health-related organizations and agencies.

Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree required.
•    Knowledge and experience in political action committees and knowledge of their
management and legal requirements (U.S. federal).
•    Exceptional writing and strong verbal communications skills.
•    Experience working with a Congressional office and an understanding of the
legislative process.
•    Experience in policy with federal government, private sector and/or other health-related organizations. Hill experience desired.
•    Candidate must demonstrate understanding of federal legislative and regulatory
processes. 
•    Strong communication, organization, interpersonal and public presentation skills required.
•    Ability to travel, work after hours as needed. 
•    Minimum 3 - 4 years experience performing one or a combination of PAC/association fundraising, advocacy, lobbying and Capitol Hill is preferred and should be demonstrated in candidates application.
