President Trump announced Thursday he is nominating Brown, who had also been suggested as a candidate for secretary of Veterans Affairs, to serve as ambassador to the Pacific ally.

Brown, who endorsed Trump early in his campaign, was elected to the Senate in a 2010 special election following the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy (D).

Two years later, Warren unseated him.

He lost another Senate race in 2014, when he ran in New Hampshire.
